Surfactants Testing

Surfactant is a compound that exists in the hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts, and it is a substance with a special chemical structure. During use, it concentrates at the junction of water and air to reduce surface tension. Surfactants can be divided into four categories: anionic, cationic, zwitterionic and nonionic according to their structural characteristics. At present, surfactants are widely used in the cosmetics industry. They are auxiliary materials in cosmetic raw materials. They play a great role in products, although they are not used in large amounts. It is used in a variety of products such as facial cleanser, moisturizing lotion, skin cream, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and so on. Its functions in cosmetics are diverse, the main functions are: emulsification, washing, foaming, solubilization, sterilization, antistatic, etc.

• Emulsification: The special structure of the surfactant can make the incompatible oil and water evenly mixed, and form a relatively stable dispersion system, that is, emulsion. The surfactant that exerts emulsification is called emulsifier.

• Washing and foaming: Some surfactants have good washing and foaming effects. Soaps are a very common type of surfactants. Some facial cleansers play a cleansing role through the soap ingredients they contain.

• Solubilization: Surfactants can increase the solubility of some insoluble substances in water, so that they can be completely dissolved in water, and finally form a transparent state. This effect is called solubilization, and the surfactants are also called solubilizers.
