Patch Testing

Patch Testing The patch test is used to detect potential allergens or irritants, and is mostly used in clinical diagnosis of allergic diseases, such as contact dermatitis and eczema. It is not only the standard for diagnosing cosmetic contact dermatitis, but also plays an important role in the evaluation and diagnosis of other adverse reactions of cosmetics to ensure the safety of cosmetics. Common types of skin patch test include closed patch test, repeated open application test, and repeated insult patch test. Under normal circumstances, cosmetics generally use the closed patch test. With the diversification of innovative cosmetic products and raw materials, reports of adverse effects of cosmetics are increasing, most of which are cosmetic contact dermatitis. Patch test is a reliable method for diagnosing cosmetic contact dermatitis. Patch test can help subjects find allergens and determine their clinical relationship. At the same time, studying the irritation and allergic reactions produced by cosmetics and raw materials will help to understand the causes and internal mechanisms of cosmetic contact dermatitis.

It should be noted that the test should meet the regulations and ethical requirements of the product market, and in addition, 2 to 3 dermatologists need to interpret the results according to uniform standards. For some small-scale cosmetics manufacturers, they can cooperate with independent testing agencies to effectively evaluate the control of raw materials, the selection and optimization of formulas. In addition, customized patch tests can be conducted according to the characteristics of the product to help subjects confirm allergenic cosmetics and avoid greater losses and injuries.

Our Services

Creative BioMart has established a complete cosmetic patch testing platform to help manufacturers complete product safety assessments with high efficiency and high quality. The Human Repeated Insult Patch Test (HRIPT) is conducted on team members to study the skin irritation and skin sensitization of test samples. The test product is applied to the skin of the team members, and is repeatedly contacted for a period. Recruit specific group members with specific gender, age, and skin type to reflect the target consumer group, thereby improving the reliability of the results. After the test sample is removed, it is observed and evaluated by experienced experts and dermatologists. Then scores are given to reflect the level of irritation and sensitization.

In special cases, such as anti-freckle cosmetics and powdered (such as pressed powder, foundation) sunscreen cosmetics, when the patch test has irritating results or the results are difficult to judge, the repetitive open application test should be added. The repetitive open test is also applicable to products such as bath products, hair dyes, and depilatory, etc.
