Cosmetic Product Information File (PIF)

The Product Information File (PIF) is one of the legal requirements for placing a product in the market. It contains all important information on product description, CPSR (Cosmetic Product Safety Report), packaging in which the product is sold, manufacturing process and product labelling, showing product characteristics, safety and efficacy, and for inspection by the regulatory authority.

Any product placed on the EU/UK market requires the preparation of a product information file which can be accessible to competent authorities in paper or electronic format. According to Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009, the PIF shall be kept for 10 years from the date of the last batch of the cosmetic product being placed on the market, and the information contained in the product information file shall be provided in a language easily understood by the local competent authorities of the Member State.
