Biodegradability is the ability of a material to decompose over time due to biological activity, especially by microorganisms into smaller molecules (carbon dioxide, water, mineral salts, etc.). This is a key process for removing organic components from the environment, especially from water, sediment and soil. In the cosmetics industry, more and more products are claimed to be "green,", and regulatory agencies are increasingly taking a hard look at how products are marketed. Biodegradation, while a complex process, can make the difference between the competitive high-value product and the one that stays back in development limbo. Biodegradability testing of finished products and raw materials is a very important step for manufacturers. As a professional cosmetic testing company, Creative BioMart provides high-quality research on ingredients and cosmetic biodegradability, all studies will be carried out in accordance with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice (Council Directive 87/18/EEC). Indeed, biodegradability is a criteria in regulations such as REACH or for labels awarding as European Ecolabel for example (according to OECD guidelines).

Our experts will select the assay standard for customers based on the properties of the test substance (solubility, volatility, etc.). Currently, OECD 301 Guidelines (readily biodegradable) is the standard most commonly used to measure the biodegradation of substances.
